Backyard Birds & Coffee started from feeding the birds at home in 2014 . From there the passion grew to opening a birding supply store along with a coffee shop including hand-dipped ice cream. We wanted to create a relaxing place to just take a time out from the fast pace life we all live and reset our minds just like the electronic devices we use need to be reset from time to time. What better way than to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in our relaxed shop and enjoy watching the birds feed at one of our multiple feeding stations!

About the Executive Chef:
Ashleigh Fleming
I had the fortune — or as my dad says, “the unfortunate pleasure” — of growing up in a hospitality centered family. My father always managed and owned restaurants as I was growing up and my mom is a luxury hotel and high-rise manager. My grandmother was the world’s greatest entertainer and parties and holidays were the absolute best with no missed detail at her house! With her four daughters and a few chefs in the family and plenty of us running around, it was always amazing to me that when my grandmother put food on the table, no matter what Southern drama was occurring or what was happening, everyone was happy and the worries of the day were gone. I fell in love with the hustle and the movement of the kitchen, and the noise of service, and the dance of hospitality at a young age. When my friends were out playing on the weekends, my brother and I were counting burned-out lightbulbs and crooked pictures with my mom at the hotel or counting inventory with my dad – which sometimes included terribly scary fish to a kid, like a monkfish! But my favorite was to count the lobsters while they were still in the tanks. I did the servers side work when I was in elementary school, progressed through the ranks of washing dishes and serving by high school, and eventually managing a restaurant at the age of 18.
My genuine love of food and an appreciation for the communal pleasures of dining drew me into the profession and I have never looked back. Alongside my love of cooking, I’ve always been determined to never stop learning and I always strive to be better and to progress. I supplemented my early years in the restaurant and my grandmother’s kitchen with the best in training and certification by attending and graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. My journey has taken me through some of the best clubs and restaurants; River Oaks Country Club and The Briar Club in Texas; Congressional Country Club and Army Navy Country Club in Maryland; and in various areas of North Carolina including three years as the Executive Chef of The Carolina Club at UNC in Chapel Hill. Most recently, I opened a restaurant in Apex centered around local growers and seasonal provisions.
Nothing could have prepared me more than training under Certified Master Chef Ken Arnone who has achieved the highest level of certification in the craft and is only one of 71 Certified Master Chefs in the United States as well as a Global Master Chef. He has mentored me every step of the way. Both he along with Chef Russell Scott, whom I interned with, have encouraged me to strive for excellence and find my own personal niche. My culinary style reflects my home of Texas influenced by the culture and style of my experiences and surroundings. I love local flavors blended with modern techniques. My flavor driven background has made for a unique approach.
I look forward to working with Ed and Deb and turning their vision into a reality and becoming an integral part of the incredible Littleton community.
- Chef Ash

The Brunswick County Museum is located in the historic Courthouse Square in Lawrenceville. Come and see a variety of exhibits documenting the countys history. The County of Brunswick was created in 1720 and stretched from the fall lines in the rivers east of Emporia to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The county was bounded on the south by a surveyors line which separated the Virginia and North Carolina colonies and on the north by the Nottoway River. This vast area has been separated into ten (10) counties. The museum houses three distinct display rooms: the Indian Relics, Governor Albertis Harrison Room and the Mrs. Alice Samford Room. There is an exhibit of Fort Christanna and some items from an archeologist dig made there in 1797-1981.Special tours can be arrange

Brunswick Speedway, located on Hwy 46 (12550 Christanna Hwy) four miles south of Lawrenceville, Virginia 23868 was billed as the "Fastest Quarter-Mile Dirt Track In the Entire South" when it opened in April of 1956. Sportsman and Modified cars hailed from miles around. In later years, the track would host thrill shows, motorcycles, figure 8 racing and late model stock cars to the delight of hundreds of avid race fans weekly.
For the next thirty years, the track sat quietly on the farm of A.L. Baird, Jr, who as a little boy, spent every hour he could at the track. Having racing 'in his blood', he has been involved with it over the years from building cars, to crew chiefing to more recently owning a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified team. But Brunswick Speedway, by now grown up in pines, has always been close to his heart.
A few years ago, mainly as a stress reliever, he began pushing down trees on the track with his bulldozer. Gradually as the track started taking shape, he envisioned it bustling with activity again.
Now, it has re-emerged as a first class, high- banked go kart track attracting karters from several states.
Al and his wife Betsy, have always wanted to some day get into a business where people were having a good time. With the help of family and friends, they have achieved their goal.
When Al decided to open the track, he wanted to provide a product that would be affordable for newcomers to the sport. Luckily, after talking with others in the karting industry, a new engine was soon developed. It is called the Box Stock Project engine. This affordable engine, along with a set of Maxxis tires that will last all season rather than just one race, make up more than half of the nearly twenty classes now running at Brunswick Speedway.
Racers ranging from 5 years old to over 70 years young are competing. One family has three generations competing. The eldest having raced on the original track.
Brunswick Speedway's motto is "…Let the Good Times Roll…" taken from a song that was played over the PA system back in the day. Good times continue at the track in 2014 with points races most Saturday nights.
