You may choose to dine in our "red room" for menu service that features a more intimate setting with soft lighting and white table linens or in a more casual buffet room accented with a huge fireplace that is open on weekends — and when we host a Special Buffet for Easter Sunday, Mother's Day, and Thanksgiving. We also have a take-out and bar area. The Kennon House can accommodate larger groups in private dining areas upon special request; please call ahead to arrange. Our signature Fried Chicken is available year-round. Most entrees includes two sides. All entrees are cooked to order and will take time. We also feature homemade dinner rolls. Our barbecue is made daily from top quality U.S.D.A inspected shoulders. There are no additives or preservatives added to our barbecue, Ralph Woodruff, our founder, started his barbecue business in the neighboring Roanoke Rapids in 1941 and it was well received by the community. Ralphs needed room to grow and moved to our present location in 1952. His son Mason took over the family business in the 60's and with wife Vivian, built our restaurant to our present status. An oil portrait of Ralph Woodruff hangs in our lobby, ever watchful that few continue the excellent food and service he began years ago. Today, Mason's daughter, Kim and her son, Gavin continue the traditions that Ralph began.
